NCAA Champion Jonathon Riley Finishes Sixth at USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships

Eugene, Or - Jonathon Riley, the 2001 NCAA champion in the 5,000 meters, finished sixth on Friday at the United States Outdoor Track & Field Championships at the University of Oregon.
Riley ran the distance in a season-best time of 13:40.13. Teammates Grant Robison and Seth Hejny finished 13th and 18th, respectively, in times of 13:52.24 and 14:03.59.
American record holder Bob Kennedy won the race in a time of 13:28.72.
On Saturday at 3:50 p.m., Gabe Jennings and Michael Stember will compete in the finals of the 1,500 meters. At 5:05 p.m., Maurica Carlucci will run in the finals of the 1,500 meters.
At 2:20 p.m. on Saturday, Laura Turner will compete in the 3,000 meter steeplechase final.
On Sunday at 2:20 p.m., NCAA champion Lauren Fleshman will compete in the 5,000 meters, while freshman Jillian Camarena will compete earlier in the day (10:45 a.m.) in the shot put.
The USA Championships serve as the selection event for Team USA at the 2001 IAAF World Outdoor Championships, August 3-12 in Edmonton, Canada. The top three finishers in each event who have met IAAF qualifying standards will make the U.S. squad for Edmonton.
