Former Stanford Track & Field Stars Win Three Events at USA Outdoor Championships

June 24, 2001

The 2001 United States Outdoor Track & Field Championships ended on Sunday at the University of Oregon, and two former Cardinal stars figured prominently in the four-day event.

Regina Jacobs, a 1985 Stanford graduate, captured first place honors in the 800 (2:00.34) and 1,500 meters (4:06.12), thus becoming only the second woman to win both events at the same U.S. Championships. Chryste Gaines, a 1992 graduate, captured the 100 meter title (10.89w).

On Sunday, two current Stanford athletes competed, freshman Jillian Camarena finished ninth in the shot put with a best throw of 49-10 (15.19m). Seilala Sua won the event at 58-11 1/2 (17.97m).
