USC To Open Preseason NIT On ESPN

USC will host Wyoming in the first round of the 2001 Preseason NIT tournament Nov. 13 in a 6:30 p.m. match-up televised live by ESPN, it was announced today (June 27).
Should the Trojans win, they would play the winner between Montana State at Fresno State in a game played the same day. Other first-round match-ups on USC's side of the bracket are Maine at Arkansas and UNC-Wilmington at Wake Forest, both on Nov. 12.
Pairings on the other side of the bracket include Detroit at Michigan State and Central Connecticut at Oklahoma on Nov. 13 and Fordham at DePaul and Manhattan at Syracuse on Nov. 12.
USC last faced Wyoming at the end of the 1999 season, when it lost to the Cowboys in Laramie, Wyo., in the first round of the postseason NIT.
The second-round games will be played from Nov. 14-16, with those dates and sites announced at the conclusion of the first round.
The semifinals and finals will be held at Madison Square Garden on Nov. 21 and 23.
Syracuse, which won the Preseason NIT in 1986, is the only former champion in the field.
Duke, which went on to win the national championship, beat Temple 63-61 in last year's Preseason NIT title game.
