Women's Basketball To Host Opening Game Of 2001 Preseason WNIT

CORVALLIS, Ore. - Oregon State's women's basketball team has been invited to participate in the 2001 Preseason Women's National Invitation Tournament as announced by the Women's Collegiate Sports Association Wednesday evening.
The Beavers will start-off the 2001-02 season by hosting fellow post-season WNIT qualifier Loyola Marymount on Friday, November 9 in the opening round of the 16-team tournament.
Two-time NCAA tournament champion Connecticut and 2001 NCAA elite eight participant Vanderbilt headline an outstanding field for the 2001 Preseason WNIT. The field also includes four other 2001 NCAA Tournament teams, Colorado, Fairfield, Stephen F. Austin and Oral Roberts, as well as 2001 Women's National Invitation Tournament runner-up New Mexico and WNIT participants, Florida International, George Mason and Temple.
All first round games of the WNIT will be on Friday, November 9 at the campus sites of participating schools. Round two games will be held on November 11 with the semifinals occurring November 14, 15, or 16 and the championship Sunday or Monday, November 18 or 19. Vanderbilt will play Eastern Kentucky in the other half of the Beavers' bracket.
OSU, who finished the 2000-01 campaign with a 16-13 record, made their first post-season appearance since the 1996 NCAA Tournament, when they hosted Brigham Young University in the opening round of the 2001 WNIT.
The Beavers return seven players from last season's squad, including Pacific-10 Conference Player of the Year and honorable mention Kodak All-American Felicia Ragland.
