McLachlin Wins Oahu Country Club Invitational
July 17, 2001
UCLA senior golfer Parker McLachlin won his second tournament this summer, capturing the Oahu Country Club Invitational July 16 in his hometown of Honolulu, HI.
McLachlin, who won the Sports Shinko Rainbow Open last month, posted rounds of 70-67-64--201, 12-under par. He won by five shots over Brandon Kop and by seven shots over third place Eric Sonnenberg.
McLachlin birdied four of the first eight holes before Kop cut his lead to three shots. On the back nine, McLachlin stiffed a seven-iron to two feet on a 211-yard par-3 and sank the putt for his sixth birdie of the day. He was four strokes up with five to play.
'He was just too solid today,' said Kop.
'It was a fun day of golf,' said McLachlin. 'I didn't want it to end.'
