July 20, 2001

PULLMAN, Wash. -- The Washington State tennis team signed a pair of Hungarians, head coach Cari Groce announced Friday.

The newest Cougars are Nora Gaal and Orsi Sallai. They join a Washington State team that advanced to the second round of the 2000 NCAA Tournament.

Gaal is ranked in the top 15 in girls' 18's in Hungary and is playing for one of the top Hungarian teams this summer.

'Nora will be a real fighter on the court for us,' Groce said. 'She has a ton of potential and will develop into a strong collegiate player for us.'

Sallai is ranked among the top 20 in the Hungarian women's open division, which lists many professional players.

'We are excited for Orsi to come in with a lot of international experience,' Groce said. 'She should vie for one of our top spots in singles and doubles. We are thrilled to have signed her over other top schools that recruited her. She will make a strong impression right away in collegiate tennis.
