July 23, 2001
Incoming USC freshman swimmer Kaitlin Sandeno, among six Trojans at the 2001 World Championships, won a pair of bronze medals during a grueling day of competition in Fukuoka, Japan, on Monday (July 23).
Sandeno began the finals competition by taking third in the 800-meter freestyle in 8:31.45. She then followed it up later in the evening by earning the bronze in the 200-meter butterfly in a personal best time of 2:08.52. The time made her the third-fastest American in history, behind Misty Hyman and Mary T. Meagher.
'I'm pleased with how the last two days went for me,' Sandeno said. 'It was a tough two days. I'm pleased with both of my swims tonight. Considering what races I've swam, I'm happy with how it turned out.'
