ASU Looks To Pack Sun Devil Stadium For Season Opener

TEMPE, Ariz. -- In an effort to fill the seats at Sun Devil Stadium for the 2001 football season opener, Sept 8 vs. San Diego State at 7:00 p.m., ASU's Department of Intercollegiate Athletics is offering two sponsor benefit ticket packages that will offer groups of 500 or 1,000 tickets at $5 per seat.

Providing an opportunity for Valley businesses to purchase tickets for their employees, families or for local youth groups at a special wholesale rate, ASU's goal is to sell 20,000 tickets with this one-time offer.

'Those of us in the Arizona State family are tremendously excited for the upcoming football season,' ASU Athletic Director Gene Smith said. 'We're really hoping that by offering these ticket packages we can welcome Dirk Koetter with filled seats and a lively atmosphere at Sun Devil Stadium.'

Said Koetter, who is entering his first season as ASU head coach, 'I really believe that having a loud and enthusiastic home crowd is like putting a 12th player on the field. The fans can have a tremendous impact on a game and I hope people will come out and support us.'

In the smaller 500-ticket plan priced at $2,500, ASU also offers two invitations to a pre-game tailgate hosted by Smith, two game tickets in a suite hosted by ASU Athletics, one mention of the company name on the Sun Devil Stadium Matrix Board, one parking pass and the chance to participate in an on-field presentation made to all event sponsors during pre-game ceremonies.

The 1,000-ticket plan, priced at $5,000, doubles each aforementioned extra benefit.
