July 25, 2001
EUGENE - The relocation of Oregon's MegaVision scoreboard in the west end zone of Autzen Stadium will be transmitted live via the Ducks' webcam Thursday morning, with the entire process anticipated to be completed shortly after 9 a.m.
The general public will be able to witness the mammoth move, which could get underway as early as 5 a.m., by accessing the athletic department's official website at www.goducks.com or by directly linking the Autzen Stadium webcam site at www.autzen-webcam/view/view.shtml.
The 175,000-pound scoreboard and video board, which was originally installed prior to the 1998 season, will be moved intact with the assistance of a pair of cranes possessing the capacity of better than 210 tons each. The scoreboard will be relocated back 30 feet as well as 30 feet higher to help accommodate additional seating which will be added following the conclusion of the 2001 season as part of the $80 million Autzen Stadium expansion project.
The major undertaking under the direction of the Hunt and Wildish construction groups will see the scoreboard hoisted upon a pair of supports containing 230 cubic yards of concrete and 50,000 pounds of reinforced steel.
