Beavers Sign Sanders

July 26, 2001

CORVALLIS, Ore. - Oregon State has signed righthanded pitcher Jared Sanders to a baseball letter of intent, OSU head coach Pat Casey announced Thursday. Sanders (Bend, Ore./Mountain View HS, Mount Hood CC) will enter OSU as a sophomore this fall with three years of eligibility for the Beavers.

Sanders was 4-1 with a 1.57 earned run average this spring for Mount Hood, earning first team All-Southern Region honors in the NWAACC, he also plays the outfield. This summer, he is playing for the Bend Elks of the Pacific International League and they enter postseason play this weekend.

'Jared is a very good athlete who has the ability to both pitch and play,' Casey said of Sanders. 'We look for him to be one of our weekend starters on the mound. We feel he has great potential, and we're looking forward to him being in our program. He's an immediate-impact guy.'

At Mountain View High in Bend, Sanders was first-team All-Intermountain Conference and first-team all-state as a pitcher. He was second team All-IMC as an outfielder.

'It's a chance to play in the Pac-10,' Sanders said of signing with OSU. 'It's a bigger league, it's more exciting - it's the next step for me.'
