Women's Track Year In Review

UCLA won its fifth consecutive Pac-10 title, and 12th overall, with a narrow 155-153 victory over rival USC. The two-point margin of victory was the closest in championship history.
At the 20th annual NCAA Championships, The Pac-10 finished strong, capturing the top-three places. USC, UCLA and ARIZONA finished in first, second and third places, respectively. USC's win was its first NCAA title in school history. The Trojans accumulated 63 points with the help of NCAA title winners such as Angela Williams (100m) Brigita Langerholc (800m) and Inga Stasiulionyte (javelin). Williams entered the record books becoming the first woman to claim the NCAA 100-meter title three consecutive times. Other Pac-10 competitors capturing NCAA titles were ARIZONA's Brianna Glen (200m, long jump) and Andrea Dutoit (pole vault), STANFORD's Lauren Fleshman (5000m) and UCLA's Christina Tolson (shot put). In pole vault, the Pac-10 was dominate with seven Pac-10 athletes finishing in the top 10.
ARIZONA's Brianna Glenn was named Pac-10 Women's Track and Field Athlete of the Year. Glenn won the 100-meter (11.39) and 200-meter (23.26) titles at the Pac-10 Championships. She also placed third in the long jump (6.06m/19-10 3/4). Glenn went on to the NCAA Championships and brought home two more titles in the 200-meters (22.92w), long jump (6.56m/21-6 1/4) and a third-place finish in the 100-meters (11.21w). Glenn was the only woman to win two titles at the meet. She entered the record books becoming the first woman in NCAA track and field history to win the long jump and a sprint event.
UCLA freshman Sheena Johnson was honored as the Pac-10 Newcomer of the Year. Johnson led the Conference throughout the season with a time of 56.02. She won the 400-meter hurdles at the Pac-10 Championships (56.02) and was fourth in the 100-meter hurdles (13.82). Easton was also a member of UCLA's first-place 4x400 meter relay team (3:32.82). The relay team placed fifth at the NCAA Championships (3:36.09).
UCLA's Jeanette Bolden was named the women's Coach of the Year. It was her fifth consecutive title. Bolden has claimed the title seven times in the past eight years.
