Pac-10 Men's Basketball Title Game To Be Aired By CBS

July 30, 2001

CBS Sports has acquired the rights to the Pac-10's Men's College Basketball Championship game, through an agreement with Fox Sports Net, it was announced today by Mike Aresco, Senior Vice President, Programming, CBS Sports and Tracy Dolgin, President, Fox Sports Net. The multi-year agreement begins with the 2002 Pac-10 Tournament.

The Pac-10 Tournament, which previously ran from 1987-90, will be contested at the Staples Center in Los Angeles with the championship game to be broadcast live on Saturday, March 9 (6-8 p.m., ET) on CBS. The winner will earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Men's Basketball Championship.

Fox Sports Net acquired the exclusive television rights to the entire Pac-10 postseason tournament in a multi-year agreement with the conference in 2000. Each year, the first two rounds will be televised by Fox Sports Net.

'We are delighted to have the opportunity to showcase the return of the Pac-10 Tournament, providing increased national exposure to the Conference prior to the start of the NCAA tournament,' says Aresco. 'In cooperation with Fox Sports Net, this agreement marks a further extension of our growing relationship with the Pac-10 which we look forward to continuing well into the future.'

'We are pleased and proud that the Pac-10's new men's basketball tournament will culminate with a telecast of the Championship game on CBS, the network of the NCAA Men's Basketball Championship,' says Tom Hansen, Commissioner of the Pac-10. 'CBS' selection of the Championship game reflects the prominent role the Pac-10 has played in recent NCAA tournaments, including having four teams in the Sweet Sixteen last year and Arizona playing in the National Championship game.'

'The national telecast in this prime time period will make the Pac-10 Tournament even more exciting for the student-athletes and fans,' added Hansen.
