Vendt Wins Silver In 400-Meter IM At World Championships

USC junior-to-be Erik Vendt, a silver medalist in the 400-meter IM at the 2000 Summer Olympics, earned the same medal in the same event on the final day of the 2001 World Swimming Championships in Fukuoka, Japan, on Sunday (July 29).
Vendt swam a 4:15.36 to take second behind suprise winner Alessio Boggiatto of Italy, who won in 4:13.15. American teammate Tom Wilkens took third.
'I thought Tom was the one I had to worry about,' Vendt said. 'Then I see him (Boggiato) a body length ahead.'
Corrie Murphy, Mark Warkentin, Jana Krohn, Jennifer Parmenter, Tamas Kerekjarto (Hungary) and Ryosuke Imai (Japan) will be the next Trojans to race internationally when they compete at the 2001 World University Games in Beijing, China, Aug. 22-Sept. 1.
