Pac-10 Volleyball Coaches' Poll Released (8/3/01)

WALNUT CREEK, Calif.--USC, which returns four starters from a team that shared the Pacific-10 Conference volleyball title with ARIZONA and advanced to the NCAA Final Four last season, has been picked to defend its Conference Championship by the Pac-10 volleyball coaches. The Trojans, who received 87 total votes, edged out second-place STANFORD by three votes. Additionally, USC received six first-place votes while the Cardinal claimed the other four.
Arizona finished third with 72 votes, followed by UCLA with 69 tallies. WASHINGTON STATE came in fifth with 55 votes.
Rounding out the poll was ARIZONA STATE, CALIFORNIA, OREGON STATE, OREGON and WASHINGTON, respectively.
The coaches have correctly selected the Pac-10 Champion eight of 12 previous polls. Following are the results of the preseason coaches poll, coaches are not allowed to vote for their own team (points 10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2, first place votes in parentheses):
