Keel on Lou Groza Award Watch List

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - Junior placekicker Sean Keel was named to the 2001Lou Groza Collegiate Placekicker Award Preseason Watch List. The list iscomprised of the top 30 preliminary candidates for the award honoring thetop placekicker in the nation.
Keel, a 6-foot, 200-pound junior from Littleton, Colo., ranked third inthe Pac-10 and 26th nationally with 1.18 field goals per game last season.He connected on 13-of-17 field goal attempts (.765) and 25-of-26 PATs(.962) during the 2000 campaign. Keel made 9-of-10 field goals inside 40yards and 4-of-5 attempts of 40-49 yards last season.
The kickers on the Lou Groza Award Watch List were chosen based onstatistics from the 2000 season and on preseason expectations. However, anyDivision I kicker is eligible for consideration for the award. The 20semifinalists for the Lou Groza Award will be announced in late October,followed several weeks later by the release of the three Lou Groza Awardfinalists. The award winner will be announced on Dec. 4 in ceremonies inWest Palm Beach, Fla.
Now in its 10th year of honoring the top placekicker in Division Ifootball, the Lou Groza Award is named for NFL Hall of Fame kicker LouGroza, who played 21 seasons with the Cleveland Browns. Groza won four NFLchampionships with Cleveland and was named NFL Player of the Year in 1954.
