Morrison and Marquand Named Preseason All-Americans
Aug. 7, 2001
Stanford, Calif. - Stanford senior Lee Morrison (Carmichael, Calif.) and sophomore Ally Marquand (Irving, Calif.) were tabbed by Collegesoccer.com as Preseason All-Americans. Morrison was a men's First Team All-American selection, while Marquand was named to the women's Second Team All-American squad.
Morrison was a finalist for both the Missouri Athletic Club Award and the Hermann Award, both of which are given annually to the top player in men's and women's collegiate soccer. The 2000 All Pac-10 First Team selection started all 22 matches for the Cardinal men last season and helped anchor the nation's stingiest defense. Morrison, a Second Team NSCAA/adidas All-American, tallied three goals and four assists last year. He was also named a Preseason All-American prior to last year's campaign by Soccer America.
Marquand returns after redshirting last season due to an ACL injury. This summer, Marquand was a member of the Under-21 National Team that won the Nordic Cup Championship in Norway.
The men's team will open its 2001 season at the Portland Invitational on Sept. 1, against Gonzaga, while the women's team travels to Gainesville to take on Florida Sept. 2.
