Women's Volleyball Begins Preseason

Stanford, Calif. - The Stanford University women's volleyball team, under the direction of first-year head coach John Dunning, begins its two-a-day preseason practices on Monday, August 13 at Maples Pavilion on the Stanford campus.

'The expectations for this year are as they are every year,' Dunning said. 'Our goal is to play for the national championship. We have very good players.- players with great experience. The whole college volleyball game is going to change considerably this year by going to rally scoring. The impact of that will be felt this season and throughout the years to come.'

The Cardinal will practice twice a day beginning Monday, August 13 and run through Tuesday, August 28. Times will vary but most morning sessions will run from 9 a.m. to noon while the afternoon session goes from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Intrasquad scrimmages will take place from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on selected days.

Practices are open to the public and are located in Maples Pavilion located next to the Arrillaga Family Sports Center on West Campus Drive. The Cardinal open their 2001 season on Friday, August 31, when they face Minnesota at the Jefferson Cup in Charlottesville, Virginia.
