Felix Sanchez Wins World Championship In 400 Meter Hurdles
Aug. 11, 2001
Edmonton, Canada - Felix Sanchez ran 47.49 to win the 400-meter hurdles at the 2001 World Track and Field Championships in Edmonton on Friday (August 10).
The former Trojan's mark was 10th-fastest all time and a personal best. It was also a record for his native Dominican Republic.
Sanchez still holds the USC 400-meter hurdles record with a time of 48.33 which he ran to win the NCAA championship in Durham, N.C., in June of 2000. He is the first Trojan to be crowned the champion in the 400-meter hurdles in international competition since Rex Cawley won the Olympic title in 1964.
