Stacey Nuveman Named 2001 NFCA Diamond Sports Catcher of the Year

COLUMBIA, MO - Junior softball player Stacey Nuveman of UCLA has been named NFCA Diamond Sports Division I Catcher of the Year for 2001,it was announced by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA). Nuveman is one of 10 catchers honored by Diamond Sports, the NFCA's Official Protective Equipment.
Diamond Sports sponsors the catcher of the y ear awrds for high school and college members of the NFCA. Awards are presented in the following categories: NCAA (Divisions I, II and III), NAIA, NJCAA (Divisions I, II and III), Cal JC, NWAACC (Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges) and high school.
The 2001 Diamond Sports Catcher of the Year awards were determined by divisional committees made up of NFCA member coaches. Each player was named first-team All-America in her respective division.
Nuveman, a junior from LaVerne, CA, batted .440 with 19 home runs and 73 RBI to lead UCLA to the runner-up spot in the 2001 Women's College World Series. The Pac-10 Player of the Year, she led the Pac-10 in three offensive catagories -- batting average (.440), slugging percentage (.873) and on-base percentage (.615) -- and was in the top five in five other categories. She was charged with only three errors in 398 chances. Nuveman, a member of the 2000 USA Olympic Softball Team, was also the Diamond Sports Division I Catcher of the Year in 1999.
