Aug. 16, 2001
Los Angeles -The UCLA women's soccer team earned its highest preseason ranking in the program's nine year history Thursday, as the Bruins were picked No. 2 by both the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) and online source Soccer Buzz.
North Carolina, which beat UCLA, 2-1 in last year's NCAA title game, was picked first in both polls.
The Bruins, who open the season on Sept. 1 against No. 3 Portland at the Fila Classic in Fullerton, return eight starters from a year ago and are coached by reigning NSCAA National Coach of the Year Jillian Ellis.
