Bruin Swimmers and Tracksters Compete at 21st World University Games

Bruin Swimmers and Tracksters are set to begin competition at the 21st World University Games. The Universiade is being held in Beijing, China from August 22 to September 1. Tracy O'Hara and Sara Platzer, along with former Bruins Beth Goodwin, Shakedia Jones and Jess Strutzel are members of the 194 person US team.
Swimming begins competition at the Yingdong Natatorium on Thursday, August 23, and will wrap up on Wednesday, August 29. Beth Goodwin will compete in the 50 fly on Friday (heats and semi-final) with the final on Saturday. Goodwin is also competing in the 100 fly on Sunday (heats and semi-final) with the final on Monday. Sara Platzer will compete in the 50 free on Saturday, with the final on Sunday.
Track and Field competition, held at the National Olympic Sports Complex, begins Monday, August 27th and will finish on the last day of the Games, September 1. Shakedia Jones, competing in the 100m and 4x100m relay, will first run in 100m qualifiers on August 27, and then in the 4x100m relay qualifier on August 29. Tracy O'Hara will also compete on August 27 in the pole vault qualifier. Jess Strutzel will run in the 800m qualifier on August 30.
