Three Bruin Defenders Honored

Three members of the Bruin defense have been named to pre-season award lists.
Senior inside linebacker Robert Thomas has been named to the pre-season watch list of the Dick Butkus Award, presented annually to the nation's top linebacker. In 2000, Thomas was one of 11 semifinalists and led the Bruins with 88 tackles and six fumbles caused. He also made nine tackles behind the line of scrimmage.
Thomas is one of 14 linebackers named to the pre-season list for the second time. Overall, 69 players were named to the list.
In 2000, Anderson ranked third on the team with 73 tackles and accounted for 10 turnovers, making three interceptions, recovering four fumbles and causing three fumbles. He also led the team with 11 tackles for loss, including three quarterback sacks.
Manning led the team with four interceptions and 14 passes broken up, averaging 16.0 yards on his four interception returns. He also ranked fifth on the team with 65 tackles, including two sacks and two others behind the line of scrimmage.
A total of 38 players were named to the Thorpe pre-season list.
