Cougars At Home For Road Game
Aug. 29, 2001
PULLMAN, Wash. -- - When the Washington State Cougar football team takes the field Thursday evening (Aug. 30) to battle the Idaho Vandals, WSU players will be dressed in their white uniforms and crimson colored helmets, traditionally the Cougar's uniform for away games.
And yes, it is an away game for the Cougars, even though the Battle of the Palouse is being played in WSU's home arena, Martin Stadium.
The Idaho Vandals also play several of their home games in WSU's stadium, which seats over 37,000 fans and allows Idaho to qualify for NCAA Div. 1A football status. This year, as was the case in 1999, Idaho is officially the home team.
Idaho's 'official home team status' and uniform colors, however, may be the only way most fans will notice a difference from WSU's normal home games. Yes, there will be a few more banners around the stadium and probably a few more public address announcements for the Vandals, along with reader board promotions.
But otherwise the game has all the appearances of a WSU home game. The Cougars have promoted the game, included it in their season ticket package, and will handle all event staffing. The latter includes ticket personnel, ushers and other event management employees, and press box media staff.
WSU announced Wednesday that only 600 general admission tickets still remain for the Idaho game. General admission tickets are priced at $15 for adults and $7 for youth. In addition reserve seat tickets at $25 each are still are available, along with reserve seats in the donor seating area.
General admission seats are available for the Idaho game in sections 36 and 37 of the west endzone. Entrance to the west endzone seats is through Gaate I on the southwest side of Martin Stadium. Idaho fans have taken all seats in the east endzone.
WSU Ticket Manager John Nelson said WSU's ticket office on Grand Ave. in Pullman will close at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, but the WSU Visitor's Center at the same location will be open until kickoff and will have a limited number of tickets for sale.
The WSU ticket booths at Martin Stadium will open at 3:00 p.m. Thursday. For ticket information, call 1-800-Go-COUGS (option 3) or 509-335-9626 before 2:00 p.m. For the stadium ticket office after 3:00 p.m. call 509-335-0354.
Fans planning to attend Thursday's 7:00 p.m. game are also reminded to check parking information on the WSU web site, since school will be in session and some WSU lots may not open up until after University employes have departed late in the day.
