2001 Football Daily Update

Aug. 30, 2001

As two-a-day practices wind to a close, running backs coachBuzz Preston talks about Brian Allen, Kerry Carter and Casey Moore,as well as some players who could make an impact in the near future.

On the first week-and-a-half of practice:
'We're making some good strides, we've got some guys that are playingreally well and we just need to keep pushing it. '

On the effectiveness of Brian Allen and Kerry Carter:
'The first thing is that they love competition. They work very hardagainst each other, yet there's a lot of respect between the two. Theother thing is that it gives us an added type of dimension since theyboth have different styles we can exploit and make some thingshappen. Brian has really become more of an instinctive footballplayer since he first got here and Kerry is maturing more and moreand becoming more of a quality player. If we can get consistent playbetween the two of them I think we'll be alright.'

On fullback Casey Moore:
'We hope to highlight him a little more this season, get him moreinvolved and give him more of an opportunity to touch the ball andmake some things happen out there. He's got a lot of big play, explosive ability and we look forward to taking advantage of that.'

On younger players who could make an impact in the backfield:
'Justin Faust has really made a strong run during our practices andreally started to come around. Kenny Tolon is another guy who hasreally done well. I'm feeling really good about those twoindividuals, although right now they're behind two really goodfootball players. You just never know a season works though, so theyhave always got to be ready.'
