BYU Shuts Out Women's Soccer

Aug. 31, 2001

PROVO, Utah - On opening night of the 2001 women's college soccer season, the 13th-ranked BYU women's soccer team defeated 19th-ranked USC 2-0 on South Field in front of over 1,500 fans

The first half was close until BYU midfielder Sarah Higham Yee scored with only 3:29 left on the clock to give the Cougars the lead. BYU goalkeeper Jennifer Waldron recorded seven saves in the shutout.

Kelly Hunsberger sealed the victory with a put back off a shot by Rachelle Dixon eight minutes into the second half. The Trojans gave the Cougars a scare with some nice looks at the net late in the game, but Waldron and the BYU defense held on for the shutout.

The Women of Troy will remain in Provo and will play Tennessee on Monday (Sept. 3) at noon. USC will open its 2001 home schedule next Sunday (Sept. 9) against Nebraska at the Coliseum at 1 p.m.
