THIS WEEK'S MEET INFORMATION
The Stanford men's and women's cross country teams will open their respective 2001 campaigns at the Cal State Fullerton Jammin' Invitational this Saturday, September 1. The event will be held in the Carbon Canyon Regional Park in Brea, California. The men's 8K race begins at 8:30 a.m. with the women's 5K race to follow at 9:15 a.m. A total of 399 men's and women's runners have entered the race. The men's competition will feature 185 runners from 14 teams (Biola, Cal Baptist, Cal Coast Track Club, Cal Poly Pomona, Cal State Fullerton, Loyola Marymount, Pepperdine, Stanford, UC Riverside, UC Santa Barbara, UCLA, USC, Vanguard, Cal Coast Track Club and Cal Poly Pomona). There are 214 women's runners from a total of 17 teams, including the all the above listed teams other than Cal Coast Track Club, as well as Cal State Dominguez Hills, Cal State Bakersfield, Cal State San Bernardino and San Diego State.

A LOOK AT THIS WEEKEND'S MEN'S RUNNERS
Six of the nine men's runners scheduled to compete at the Cal State Fullerton Jammin' Invitational on Saturday are sophomores. Some of the highlighted runners will include senior Jamey Gifford (1998-99 NCAA West Regionals and 1999 NCAA Championships participant), junior Joe Urbanski (2000 Sacramento State Invitational champion), as well as sophomores Andrew Hill (2001 U.S. Junior National 10000 meter champion, 2nd at 2000 Sacramento State Invitational), Sean Knapp (two 2000 Top-10 finishes) and Steve Loughlin (9th at 2000 Stanford Invitational). Other participants include sophomore Isaac Hawkins, senior James Nielsen, sophomore David Stillman and sophomore Philip West.
A LOOK AT THIS WEEKEND'S WOMEN'S RUNNERS
The women's team for the Cal State Fullerton Jammin' Invitational will be an experienced group of participants that will feature four seniors in the group and junior Erin Sullivan leading the way. Sullivan has been an All-American for the last two seasons and the 1999 Pac-10 Cross Country Athlete of the Year and Pac-10 Newcomer of the Year when she became the first Stanford women's runner to win the individual Pac-10 crown and only the second freshman to win the title in the history of the event. Other highlighted runners include senior Caroline Annis (2000 NCAA West Regionals and 1998 NCAA Championships participant), sophomore Victoria Chang (2000 Pac-10 Women's Newcomer of the Year, 5th at 2000 Pac-10 Championships, 8th at 2000 Stanford Invitational) and junior Mariel Ettinger (1999-2000 NCAA Championships and 2000 NCAA West Regionals participant, 2000 All-Western Region, 2000 Sacramento State Invitational champion). Also expected to compete are seniors Maurica Carlucci, Colleen Flahertyk, Laura Turner, as well as junior Katie Hotchkiss and freshman Lauren Gustafson.
2000 STANFORD CROSS COUNTRY REVIEW
The Stanford men's and women's cross country teams are both coming off successful seasons in 2000. The men finished fourth at the NCAA Championships, while the women placed third. Both clubs also picked up team victories at the Pac-10 Championships and the NCAA West Regionals, as well as at the Stanford Invitational. Jonathon Riley, a senior on the 2000 team, won the men's competition at both the Pac-10 Championships and the NCAA West Regionals. Lauren Fleshman, a junior in 2001, placed third at the Pac-10 Championships and second in the NCAA West Regionals. Riley placed 10th at the NCAA Championships, while Fleshman was 11th.
