Strutzel Advances To 800m Men's Final

UCLA alum Jess Strutzel on Friday advanced to the men's 800m final atthe World University Games in Beijing, China. The final is set forSaturday.

On Friday, two Team USA 800m men's runners arrived in Saturday's finalby advancing out of their Friday semi-finals. The American men employedcome-from-behind tactics. Strutzel hung at the back of the pack in his 800msemi-final heat through 500m, then surged in the last 50m to nab the fourthand final qualifying spot with a time of 1:46.70. His teammate, DerrickPeterson, moved from back-to-front on the last lap to win his 800m semiheat in a time of 1:46.91.

Team USA's track and field medal count at the WUGs stands at six goldand two bronze.
