Volleyball Posts First Win Of 2001

Irvine, Calif. - In the first regular season match of 2001, the No. 2-ranked USC women's volleyball team (1-0) defeated UCI (0-2), 30-14, 30-16, 29-31, 30-20, in the opening round of the Marriott Sunset Showcase at Irvine's Crawford Hall.
USC won the battle of the net, outblocking UCI, 13-2. The Women of Troy hit .457 for the match to the Anteaters .192.
With players who tallied double-digit kills, the Women of Troy were led by senior middle blocker Jennifer Pahl who contributed 15 with a .600 (15-3-20) hitting percentage. Freshmen hitters Alicia Robinson and Keao Burdine had 13 and 12 kills, while sophomore April Ross added 11 kills for the win.
Burdine also led with 13 digs and Ross recorded eight blocks to lead the squad. Sophomore Toni Anderson led the team in assists with 38.
For UCI, outside hitters Chanda McLeod and Kelly Wing paced the team with 14kills apiece. Sophomore Brenda Waterman had 10 digs and Ashlie Hain topped the squad with 31 assists in the loss.
