UCLA T & F Updates From Goodwill, World University Games

UCLA alumna Gail Devers on Tuesday (Sept. 4) led a Team USA medal sweepin the women's 100m hurdles during opening day track & field competition atthe Goodwill Games in Brisbane, Australia.
Devers won the event in a time of 12.61, followed by American athletesJenny Adams (12.87) and Anajanette Kirkland (12.92) in a USA sweep thateluded them at the 2001 World Championships, when Kirkland was first,Devers second and Adams fifth.
The Goodwill Games track & field competition will continue throughSept. 7.
World University Games
On Saturday (Sept. 1) during the final day of competition at the 21stannual World University Games in Beijing, China, UCLA alumnus Jess Strutzelplaced seventh in the men's 800m final.
Strutzel's time was 1:47.60. His USA teammate, Derrick Peterson won thesilver medal, placing second in a time of 1:45.49.
On the final day of track & field competition at the WUGs, Team USA wonfour medals including gold by the women's (3:28.04) and men's (3:02.83) 4X 400m relays. Team USA's final medal tally was eight golds, two silversand two bronzes, for a total of 12 medals.
