Sept. 5, 2001
CORVALLIS, Ore. - -
Please note the Sept. 16 home opener against Santa Barbara has been changed from 1 p.m. to 12 noon.
COMING UP: OSU heads to the Bay Area for matches with Santa Clara on Friday at 2 p.m. and San Francisco on Sunday at 5 p.m.
OSU met both teams last year, dropping a hard-fought match 1-0 to Santa Clara at Washington's tournament and shutting out San Francisco 1-0 at Lorenz Field at Valley Stadium.
The Beavers trail the all-time series with Santa Clara 0-1-1 but hold a 1-0-0 advantage over the Dons of San Francisco.
Peter Billmeyer gave a highlight performance in last year's showing against Santa Clara, saving seven shots. Against San Francisco, it was Justin Kirk's score that put OSU over the top to give the Beavs a 1-0 win - their sixth of the year - and move them to 6-6-1 on the season.
The Broncos are coming off a down-to-the-wire 1-0 overtime win over San Diego State to open the season and a 2-0 loss to Bradley on Tuesday. San Francisco mopped up over the weekend with wins over CS-Stanislaus and San Francisco State by 4-0 and 3-0 margins, respectively.
