Women's Soccer Ties Idaho 1-1
Sept. 5, 2001
MOSCOW, Idaho - Beth Bowler's goal Wednesday wasn't enough for the University of Oregon women's soccer team as it tied Idaho 1-1 in the Ducks' first road match this year.
The Ducks (1-0-1) outshot their opponent for the second straight game, tallying 24 to the Vandals' 11, including an 8-1 advantage in the two overtime periods.
'It's frustrating because we do a lot of good things and create a lot of chances and then we get a little bit complacent,' sixth-year Oregon coach Bill Steffen said. 'It's a character builder. We need to get ourselves composed and get back into it. We need to work on eliminating the mistakes we made.'
After taking a school-record eight shots in Oregon's win over Gonzaga last Friday, Bowler connected in the 15th minute on an assist from Ann Westermark for the match's first score. Idaho (0-1-1) retaliated in the 73rd minute on a goal by Megan Cummings, who led the Vandals with five shots.
Oregon goalkeeper Sarah Peters played all 120 minutes, recording five saves.
The Ducks next travel to Missoula, Mont., to take on Montana. The match begins Friday at 4 p.m. PST.
