Women's Soccer's Marica Wallis Named Player Of The Week
Sept. 5, 2001
Walnut Creek, Calif. - Junior Marcia Wallis has been named Pac-10 Women's Soccer Player of the Week for August 31-September 4 announced yesterday by commissioner Tom Hansen. Wallis was also selected as a member of Soccer America's Team of the Week for August 31 to September 2.
Wallis, a native of Los Gatos, Calif., helped No. 15 Stanford (1-0-0) overcome a 2-0 halftime deficit to defeat No. 18 Florida in Gainesville September 2. Wallis scored the game-winning goal on a 16-yard shot from the right side just 1:15 into sudden-death overtime. She netted the Cardinal's first goal right after halftime, at the 51:04 mark. Stanford recorded an own goal with one minute remaining in regulation to force overtime.
This is Wallis' third career Pac-10 Player of the Week honor and Stanford's 10th Player of the Week honor all-time.
The Cardinal conclude their 17-day road trip in Austin with games against Texas A&M and Texas. Stanford will then return to The Farm for its 2001 home season opener against Notre Dame on September 16.
