Sept. 7, 2001
TUCSON, Ariz. - Former Arizona gymnast Rose McLaughlin has been named new assistant coach for the UA gymnastics program. McLaughlin joins head coach Bill Ryden and assistant coach John Court to complete this year's coaching staff.
Rose McLaughlin is a valuable addition to the Arizona gymnastics coaching staff. A New York native, McLaughlin competed in gymnastics at Arizona for two seasons (1997- 98), after transferring from George Washington University. After graduating from the University of Arizona in 1998, McLaughlin began pursuing a law degree and is currently studying sports law at the University of Arizona.
The experience McLaughlin has with the Arizona gymnastics program will help her contribute to the team's success. 'My time here with the Arizona gymnastics program was a wonderful experience,' said McLaughlin. 'It is an honor to come back and coach one of the best programs in the nation.'
McLaughlin's return to Arizona gymnastics reunites her with former coach Bill Ryden. 'I'm incredibly happy to have Rose join our coaching staff,' said Ryden. 'Rose brings both commitment and experience to our staff, which will help our program reach its highest level. I know she can deliver.'
With a full roster of 17 gymnasts, including five incoming freshmen, McLaughlin is eager to contribute to the squad's growth. 'I'm excited to work with all of the girls on our team,' said McLaughlin. 'Our team is young, but it has a great chance at becoming a very competitive and successful squad. This is the best talent I have seen, and as long as our team stays healthy and works hard, we will live up to our expectations.'
