No. 9 Women's Volleyball Sweeps No. 25 Texas 3-0

College Station, Tx. - The ninth-ranked Stanford women's volleyball team picked up its fifth consecutive win with a 3-0 sweep of No. 25 Texas tonight in College Station, Texas. Games scores were 30-21, 30-20, 30-17. The Cardinal improve to 5-0 on the year while the Longhorns fall to 3-1.
In game one, Stanford and Texas traded points back and forth until the Cardinal took a two point advantage at 10-8 on a Texas hitting error. The Cardinal slowly pulled away from the Longhorns, reaching 16-12 on a service ace by senior Michelle Chambers. A four point Stanford run put the team up 20-13. Stanford continued to pull ahead and got to 27-16 on another Texas hitting error. Freshman Ogonna Nnamani closed out game one with a kill, giving the Cardinal the 30-21 victory. Nnamani hit .700 (7-0-10) in game one to lead Stanford.
Stanford jumped out to the early 7-3 lead on a kill by Nnamani in game two. At 9-6, the Cardinal went on a five point run ending in a block by senior Tara Conrad and junior Logan Tom. The team built a ten point lead at 18-8 on another Nnamani kill. The two teams traded points until, at 26-20, Stanford strung together four consecutive points to win the game on a Sara McGee kill. The Cardinal hit .314 for the game while holding Texas to a .081 hitting percentage.
In game three, the Longhorns grabbed the early lead at 6-3 and 7-5. But Stanford roared back with eight straight points, going up 13-7. Conrad put down a kill to get the Cardinal to 18-10. With Stanford in complete control of the game, Sara McGee's kill at 24-16 gave Stanford a large cushion. The Cardinal would score five consecutive points to win the game and the match with a Jennifer Harvey kill at 30-17.
Stanford hit .281 for the match and outblocked Texas nine to four.
The Cardinal was led by outside hitter Ogonna Nnamani's 15 kills and 12 digs. Junior Logan Tom added 11 kills, three service aces and 12 digs. Tara Conrad led the match with five blocks. Setter Robyn Lewis had 31 assists, seven digs and three kills in the win.
Texas was led by Mira Topic's 11 kills and 14 digs. Gipy Duarte added nine kills and 11 digs to the Longhorn's cause.
Stanford will take on No. 18 Texas A&M tomorrow night at 7 p.m. CST in the G. Rollie White Coliseum.
