Volleyball Sweeps Falcons, Wins Air Force Invitational

COLORADO SPRINGS - Washington junior Gretchen Maurer and senior Allison Richardson teamed up to lead the Huskies to a 30-19, 30-20, 30-15 victory over the host Air Force Falcons at the Air Force Invitational in Colorado Springs, cinching the tournament title for UW. In three matches at the tournament, which began Friday, Washington never lost a game, sweeping each match, 3-0.
Maurer tallied 44 assists for the Huskies in Saturday's match, giving her 125 (13.89/g) total for the tournament, including 11 block assists, earning her MVP honors. Richardson, who joined Maurer on the all-tournament team, posted a double-double with 16 kills and 12 digs, leading the team in kills for the sixth time in seven matches. Senior Lisa Underhill also earned all-tournament team honors, posting a .643 hitting percentage for the tournament.
Washington (5-2) will travel to Gonzaga on Wednesday and Washington State on Saturday before the home Pac-10 opener on Thurs., Sept. 20 against California.
