Notes on ASU Volleyball:
After starting the year 1-3 at its own tournament, the ASU volleyball team took to the road to get back on the winning track... the Devils came home with the tournament championship at the annual Loyola Marymount Volleyball Classic by going undefeated against New Mexico, Indiana and Loyola Marymount... after opening the season 0-2, ASU has won four of its last five matches... ASU remained a perfect 15-0 against New Mexico in school history... junior middle blocker Julia Leddy was named tournament MVP... sophomore middle blocker Jodi Smith was also named to the all-tournament team with a 2.90 kpg average and hitting .368 over the tournament... the middles continue to shine for ASU, with Smith (2.73 kpg, .395), Mandy Stephens (3.25, .308) and Leddy (2.93, .403) all putting up great numbers... ASU out-hit their opponents in the tournament .256-.154, played better defense (16.18 dpg-14.09 dpg) and out-blocked them 2.14-1.82... sophomore Kim Mehlhorn broke her career high in kills in consecutive days with 15 vs. New Mexico and 16 vs. Loyola Marymount... senior Jami Coughlin averaged 3.91 kpg and 3.45 dpg in the tournament... Coughlin remains the active career Pac-10 leader in digs with 1,234 and also has 1,129 kills in her four years in the Maroon and Gold... Coughlin has recorded a double-double in six of ASU's seven matches this year... ASU head coach Patti Snyder-Park needs five victories to reach the 200-win milestone (195-156).
Pac-10 Player of the Week Nomination:
Julia Leddy (MB, Jr., Mesa, Ariz.): Leddy was named the tournament MVP at the Loyola Marymount Volleyball Classic, averaging 2.50 kills per game and hitting .412 to help lead ASU to the tournament title with a perfect 3-0 record... the junior middle blocker also averaged 1.00 blocks per game during the tournament and had a season high eight (8) total blocks vs. Loyola Marymount. For the season Leddy is hitting .403 with a 2.93 kpg average.
