USC Athletic Competitions Called Off This Week
Sept. 11, 2001
LOS ANGELES-There will be no USC athletic competitions this week in light of today's tragic events on the East Coast.
Also, Wednesday's (Sept. 12) on-campus memorial service for legendary football coach John McKay has been postponed until a date to be determined.
All USC team practices today (Sept. 11) were cancelled, although school remained in session. Athletic department personnel were given the option to go home for the day.
Four USC teams had competitions scheduled for this week. The USC women's volleyball team had league-opening matches at Oregon State on Friday (Sept. 14) and at Oregon on Saturday (Sept. 15). The USC women's soccer team was to face Wake Forest on Friday (Sept. 14) and Kentucky on Sunday (Sept. 16) in the 2001 Fila Cup at Loyola Marymount. The Trojan men's water polo team was hosting the 12-team So Cal Tournament on Saturday and Sunday (Sept. 15-16), featuring California, Stanford, UC Irvine, UC San Diego, Pepperdine, Pacific, Long Beach State, Air Force, UCLA, UC Santa Barbara and Navy. The Women of Troy cross country team was to compete at the San Diego State meet on Saturday (Sept. 15). The Trojan football team has a bye this weekend.
The rescheduling of these competitions will be determined at a later date.
