Women's Golf Finishes Fifth At Ram Fall Classic

FORT COLLINS, Colo. - Led by top-10 individual performances from senior Tasha Browner (Tarzana, Calif.), and freshman Kim Welch (Sacramento, Calif.), the Washington State women's golf team finished in fifth place at the Ptarmigan Ram Fall Classic, Tuesday.
The Cougars finished the two-day, 54-hole tournament with a score of 898 (+34). WSU was just one stroke behind Nevada for fourth position and three strokes behind Colorado and San Francisco for second place. Tournament host Colorado State captured the team title with a score of 882 (+18).
Browner posted a final round score of two-under par 70 to finish the 54-hole event at even par, five strokes behind individual champion Mayumi Motoyama of Colorado State and just one stroke behind the second place effort of Nevada's Jennie Peek (215, -1). Browner's final round score of 70 was the low round of the day in the 93-person field.
In her first tournament as a collegiate, Welch finished in a tie for sixth with a three round total of 219 (+3). Jara Goldstein (Westlake Village, Calif.) closed out the event with an even-par 72 to finish in 13th place at seven-over par (223).
The women's team next travels north for the 2001 Minnesota Invitational hosted by the University of Minnesota, Sept. 15-16.
