Former Cal Swimmer Bart Kizierowski Shines at both World University and Goodwill Games

BERKELEY, CA - Adding to the list of past and present Cal swimmers who have had outstanding 2001 summer seasons is Bart Kizierowski (1997-00), Olympian and former Bear All-American, Pac-10 and NCAA champion. Kizierowski, who trains with Cal Co-Head Coach Mike Bottom, excelled for his native Poland at both the World University Games, Aug. 22-Sept. 1 in Beijing, China, and at the Goodwill Games, Aug. 29-Sept. 4 in Brisbane, Australia.

At the World University Games, Kizierowski won the gold medal in the 50-meter free with a time of 22.3. Then at the Goodwill Games, he won the overall gold medal in the 50 free with a time of 22.36. Also at the Goodwill Games, Kizierowski won the 50-meter backstroke with a time of 25.63, which was both a Goodwill Games and a Polish national record. He then swam a time of 49.5 in the 100-meter free on the lead-off of the 4x100 free relay, breaking another Polish national record.
