Stanford Baseball Announces 2002 Schedule

Stanford, Calif. - Stanford Baseball has announced its schedule for the 2002 season. The Cardinal, runners-up at the College World Series in each of the last two seasons, will open the 2002 campaign at Sunken Diamond with a three-game series versus Cal State Fullerton, February 1-3. Stanford's 2002 schedule includes nine games against teams that participated in the 2001 CWS and 28 of the club's 56 contests are versus teams that qualified for the 2001 NCAA Tournament.
Stanford's schedule includes six games versus 2001 CWS participant and Pac-10 rival USC. The Cardinal will visit the Trojans for a three-game non-conference series March 23-24 and then host USC in its first Pac-10 home series of the season from April 12-14 at Sunken Diamond. Other Pac-10 home series for the Cardinal include California (May 3-5), Arizona State (May 10-12) and its regular season finale versus Washington State (May 24-26).
Stanford's Pac-10 opener is slated for a three-game series at Arizona from April 5-7. Other road Pac-10 series for the Cardinal include Washington (April 19-21), Oregon State (April 26-28) and UCLA (May 17-19).
In addition to the season-opening home series versus Cal State Fullerton, Stanford will also host non-conference action against Brigham Young (February 12), Santa Clara (February 22 and 24), Cal Poly (March 1-3), Texas (March 28-30), USF (April 2), San Jose State (April 9), Saint Mary's (April 16) and Sacramento State (May 21).
Non-conference road contests are scheduled at Florida State (February 8-10), Fresno State (February 15-17), Santa Clara (February 23 and May 10), California (March 8-10), USC (March 23-24), San Jose State (April 30) and Nevada (May 14).
The Cardinal will also host a pair of exhibitions with an Alumni game scheduled for October 14, 2001 (Noon) and a contest versus Rikkio University of Japan set for Tuesday, March 5, 2002 (2:00 p.m.).
