Volleyball Clothing Drive Still on as Scheduled
Sept. 12, 2001
PULLMAN, Wash. -- The Washington State - Washington volleyball match, originally scheduled for Friday, Sept. 14, has been postponed, but the Cougar volleyball team's clothing drive will continue as planned.
'Bring your used clothes and a new pair of hose' is the theme for the clothing drive that is designed to assist area women with acquiring a professional wardrobe. Cougar Volleyball Head Coach Cindy Fredrick has vocally campaigned the clothing drive for the past six months.
'We are asking all the women faculty and staff members at Washington State University to go through their closets and donate the professional clothing - suits, nice dresses, pant suits - that they are no longer wearing,' Fredrick said. 'We are looking for clothing that a woman trying to get back into the work force, who doesn't have the money to buy the clothes, can use.'
Donations of clean, gently used professional work clothing along with a new pair of pantyhose or stockings may be dropped off at the WSU Volleyball Office at Bohler Gym, Room 235, through Friday, Sept. 14. All sizes of women's clothing are needed but larger sizes are especially desired. The clothing will be turned over to the local agencies that can distribute them to women who need them.
Anyone who donated clothing will be given a coupon for free admittance to a future WSU volleyball match.
'I've thought about this for a long time, probably four or five years,' Fredrick said. 'Susie Gormsen and Nora Mae Keifer have helped me get things going. I think it is every woman's responsibility to help other women. Many women lose a lot of things through divorce and separation. Financially, some of the poorest people in the United States are divorced women or single mothers. I think it's every woman's job to help other women get back on their feet.'
