Stanford Stadium Security Measures
Sept. 18, 2001
The Stanford Athletic Department announced today that in the interest of public safety, and consistent with other major athletic facilities throughout the nation, additional security measures will take place at Stanford Stadium, beginning with Saturday's football game between the Cardinal and Arizona State.
'In the wake of recent events, we have held discussions with our stadium security personnel and made decisions to ensure public safety,' said Athletic Director Ted Leland. 'These decisions are consistent with what is taking place around the country. We are also reviewing all existing policies and procedures. We appreciate the cooperation of our fans and ask for their understanding and patience as they enter Stanford Stadium this Saturday.'
The new security measures will prohibit fans from entering Stanford Stadium with coolers, backpacks and large bags. Small bags, such as purses and diaper bags, will be subject to search before entering the Stadium. Fans are urged to arrive early and allow for additional time when entering the Stadium.
Security personnel will not comment publicly on the other security measures which will be in place. These new policies will remain in effect until further notice.
Parking lots for Saturday's football game will open at 9:00 a.m. Stanford Stadium gates will open at 5:30 p.m. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
