Platinum-Selling Country Music Artist Lila McCann to Headline Patriotic Activities at the Rose Bowl This Saturday
Sept. 20, 2001
Los Angeles - Los Angeles-based country music star Lila McCann has been invited to perform her knock-out version of 'The Star Spangled Banner' prior to Saturday's 12:30 p.m. kickoff between UCLA and Ohio State at the Rose Bowl.
McCann, a 19 year-old platinum artist with three albums to her credit, will perform the National Anthem following a moment of silence to recognize the victims lost in last week's attacks on the East Coast.
Prior to kickoff, fans will also have the opportunity to donate to a disaster relief fund set up by Clear Channel Communications. Employees from Clear Channel's eight Los Angeles area stations (Fox Sports AM1150, Hot 92.3, 102.7 KIIS FM, Star 98.7, KBIG 104, AM 570 KLAC, KFI-AM 640 and KOST 103.5) will be manning booths at various entrances to the Rose Bowl to help raise money for the fund. Proceeds will go to New York Area Police and Firefighters, Washington Area Firefighters, Police, and Military Personnel and the Pennsylvania State Police, Firefighters, and National Guard. Clear Channel has already donated $100,000 to start the fund. For more information on the fund or to donate through the Clear Channel website, please visit: Clear Channel Community
In addition to the relief fund booths, Fox Sports AM 1150 will be holding a live/on-air auction featuring signed memorabilia from the sporting world. All money raised from the auction will provide additional dollars for the fund.
Also on Saturday, the UCLA Marching Band will be performing live at halftime, followed by UCLA student Tesz Milan's version of 'America the Beautiful' in front of a giant American Flag that will be draped across the field.
The first 60,000 fans in attendance will receive patriotic cheer cards featuring the American Flag.
