Oregon Volleyball Falls 3-0 To Washington

EUGENE - The University of Oregon volleyball team opened its Pac-10 home schedule with a 30-20, 30-23, 30-22 loss to Northwest rival Washington in front of 1,016 fans at McArthur Court Friday evening. Oregon falls to 8-4 overall, 0-3 Pac-10, while the Huskies improve to 8-3, 2-1.
The Huskies pressed from the beginning, taking a 13-7 lead in Game 1 and never allowing the Ducks to lead in the game. Oregon was unable to establish momentum in the second game and again fell behind, 14-7. The Ducks pulled within five points late in the game, 20-25, but the Huskies used a 5-3 run down the stretch to go ahead 2-0 heading into the third game.
Game 3 was tied at two and three before Washington 12-5 run to take a substantial lead. Oregon was unable to tie the game, but made a late run that put them within two points, 18-20. A 10-4 run by Washington, however, closed the game and match.
Oregon senior Monique Tobbagi had a team-high 12 kills and Stephanie Martin added 11 kills and two blocks, while hitting .429. Defensively, sophomore Lindsay Murphy had her second consecutive 10 dig match to lead the Ducks. Freshman Katie O'Neil added nine digs and junior Lindsay Closs had six digs and four blocks.
The Ducks host Washington State Saturday at 7 p.m.
