Sabrina Monro Remains Undefeated in 2001

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - Washington senior Sabrina Monro today captured the individual title at the prestigious Roy Griak Invitational cross-country race in Minneapolis, Minn. Monro covered the 6,000-meter course in 20:13 for her third win in three races this season.

The Husky women finished seventh in team competition - which included 11 of the nation's top-25 teams - with 214 points, behind the 109 points of champion Arizona State. Providence (139), Arizona (167), Colorado State (188) and Michigan State (194) rounded out the top five. The Husky men finished 19th with 446 points, while Wisconsin-Madison captured the men's team title with 129.

Monro, in her first season at Washington since transferring from Montana, finished 22 seconds ahead of second-place finisher Lisa Aguilera of Arizona. Monro's three wins this season have come by a remarkable average of 32 seconds each. Fellow Husky newcomer Lisa Gibbs, a freshman from Arvada, Colo., was the Huskies next-highest finisher, placing sixth in 20:54.

Sophomore Dustin Duke was the top Husky finisher on the men's side, crossing the 8,000-meter course in 25:06, good for 62nd place. Wisconsin-Madison freshman Matt Tegenkamp was the individual champion, finishing in 23:58.
