Men's Golfers Eighth After First Round in Georgia

The UCLA men's golf team is eighth after the first round at the Carpet Capital Invitational, hosted by Georgia Tech at The Farm in Rocky Face, GA.
The Bruins posted a team score of 300, 12-over par and trail seventh place Georgia by two shots. Georgia Tech leads the field after firing a team total of 280, eight-under par. Tennessee is second at 283, five-under, followed by Wake Forest at three-over par, 291.
Individually, sophomore Roy Moon posted the Bruins' best score, a one-over par 73. He is tied for 16th place. Senior Parker McLachlin is tied for 22nd at 74, and sophomore Steve Conway is tied for 30th at 75. Junior Sang-Eun Ji is tied for 54th at 78. The Bruins were forced to discard the score of their top player, sophomore John Merrick. He shot a seven-over par round of 79 and is tied for 57th.
North Carolina's Dustin Bray leads the field after posting a first round score of 67, five-under par. Georgia Tech's Troy Matteson and Tennessee's Ian Parnaby are tied for second at 68. Three players are tied for third at 69.
Competition continues Saturday and Sunday.
