Women's Cross Country Dominates Arizona State Invitational

Gilbert, Ariz. - Stanford dominated the women's team competition and senior Laura Turner won her first individual cross country championship at the 2001 Arizona State Invitational on Friday at Freestone Park. The Cardinal placed five of the top six runners in the 5000 meter event to finish with 19 points. Turner continued her strong start with her third straight Top 5 finish of the season.

Katie Hotchkiss (3rd, 18:31.00), Jeane Goff (4th, 18:38.00), Anita Siraki (5th, 18:39.00) and Lindsay Hyatt (6th, 18:44.00) finished the scoring for the Cardinal. Maurica Carlucci (9th, 18:57.00) and Colleen Flaherty (11th, 19:03.00) also competed for Stanford.

Two Stanford men competed as individuals for the Cardinal men's team. David Stillman finished 10th with a time of 26:35.6 and Jamey Gifford was 13th in 26:50.6.

A full Stanford men's team will compete on Saturday at the Murray Keatinge Invitational in Orono, Maine.

The Stanford women will next compete at the Furman Invitational/Pre-NCAA Meet (Greenville, SC) on Saturday, October 13.
