Women's Golf Prepares For OSU Shanico Invitational

Stanford Heads Back To The Northwest: The Stanford women's golf team travels to Oregon for the OSU Shanico Invitational, October 8-10, at the Trysting Tree Golf Club. Teams will play 18 holes Monday through Wednesday. Tee times for the first two rounds will begin at 8:30 a.m. from the first and 10th tees. A 9 a.m. shotgun start will kick off the final 18 holes. Five players will compete, with the four low scores counting toward the team total.
The Course: Trysting Tree Golf Club, which opened in 1988, carries a par of 72 and plays 6,072 yards for Shanico.
The Field: A total of 19 teams and three individuals will compete: Arizona, Boise State, BYU, California, Eastern Washington, Idaho State, Idaho, Long Beach State, UNLV, New Mexico, Northern Arizona, Oregon State, Oregon, Portland State, Stanford, San Francisco, Washington, Washington State and Weber State.
Cardinal Pairings For Round One: Stanford will tee off at 9:10 a.m. from the first hole along with UNLV and Oregon State. Teams will be re-paired after each round by results.
Last Year At OSU Shanico: California took home the team title after shooting a 910, edging out San Diego State by one stroke. Stanford did not compete in the tournament last year.
Last Time Out: Stanford tied for 16th at the Fall Preview after soggy conditions forced the cancellation of the final round. The Cardinal shot a two-day total of 613 for the tourney. Stanford's top finisher was senior Salimah Mussani who tied for 23rd. Sophomore Kim Kouwabunpat tied for 41st while teammate Angela Rho tied for 64th.
Coach O'Conner: Head coach Caroline O'Connor concluded her seventh season at the helm of the Stanford women's golf program after leading the Cardinal to its best ever finish at the NCAA Championships in 1999-00 (second place). Under O'Connor's tutelage, Stanford has finished in the top 10 nationally for the past seven years and captured its first conference title in 1999. O'Connor is only the second coach in the 23 year history of the women's program. Last year, the Cardinal notched top 10 finishes in all 11 tournaments they participated in and had nine top 5 finishes. Stanford has competed in the national championships in 19 of its 22 years.
