Women's Soccer Shutout By No. 4 Portland, 2-0

PORTLAND, Ore. - Oregon State University's women's soccer team had its four-game winning streak halted on Saturday afternoon as No. 4 ranked University of Portland shutout the Beavers, 2-0.
OSU falls to 7-2-1 on the season with the loss while the Pilots earn their ninth consecutive victory to improve to 9-1-0 on the year.
Portland got on the board early with a goal set up by a corner kick in the fifth minute of the match. Lisa Casagrande's service was headed over to Lindsay Smart, who then centered a low pass to a wide-open Betsy Barr. Barr pounced on the chance, angling her shot to the far post.
Junior Lauren Orlandos, a Hermann Award finalist, put Portland up 2-0 just 1:54 into the second half when she one-timed an Emily Patterson past a scrambling OSU defense. Camped just outside the penalty area, Orlandos calmly pounded the low cross to the right of a sprawling OSU keeper, Jo Fletcher.
Fletcher was outstanding in goal for the Beavers, making 10 saves - all in the second half. Portland outshot the Beavers 17-3 in the second half, and held a 12-1 advantage in corner kicks.
'I'm a little disappointed,' commented OSU head coach Steve Fennah. 'We certainly didn't play the way we can. We could have been a little sharper and better.'
The Beavers return home to host No. 7 Stanford University on Friday at 3 p.m.
