Wildcat Soccer Team Edged by Air Force in Overtime

Colorado Springs, Colo. (Oct. 7) -- In its second overtime game of the season, the University of Arizona women's soccer team (3-5-1) was edged, 2-1, by Air Force (5-5-1) on Sunday in Colorado Springs.
The Falcons got an early goal from Elaine Tatarek, who dented the net at 7:28. The teams then played even until Wildcat sophomore forward Liz Bartlett knotted the game at one-all in the 70th minute, scoring her third goal of the season. Freshman forward Candice Wilks was credited with the assist.
Air Force didn't need much of the overtime to win the game, as Jennifer Rowland dribbled through the UA defense to score the gamewinner at 95:38.
Senior goalkeeper Shannon Monti played all 96 minutes in the nets for Arizona, collecting seven saves, as Air Force out-shot the Wildcats, 20-16. Bartlett had a team-high four shots for the UA, including two on-goal. Wilks, Tymarie Novak, Sierra Cristiano, Vanesha Bailey and Tiffany Sabado registered two shots apiece.
The loss was Arizona's fourth in a row. The Cats continue their six-game road swing and open Pac-10 play in Los Angeles next weekend. The Wildcats play at No. 2 UCLA on Friday, Oct. 12, at 7:30 p.m., then they take on USC on Sunday, Oct. 14, at 1 p.m.
